Forza 7 is the latest in the long-running franchise available for Xbox One and for the very first time, Microsoft Windows. Acting as the 10th instalment in the Forza series, the game promises more of the track-side thrills and spills we’ve come to love with a few extra features thrown in for good measure.
With the standard multi-player and single-player modes Forza fans have become accustomed to, Forza 7 comes with a more in-depth dynamic weather feature that was previously seen in the Horizon titles, but more on that later.
The game also allows players to customise their drivers for the first time. These customisable avatars will appear in a new career mode, The Forza Driver’s Cup. Not only can you choose the gender of your racing companion, but you can also alter their suit, logos and player characteristics. You can unlock more personalisation options by completing many of the in-game challenges and levelling up your profile.
This iteration of Forza includes the biggest roster of vehicles ever seen in the series and more than its rivals from Gran Turismo and Project Cars. With the promise of 700 beautifully rendered cars, developer Turn10 has completely outdone itself. With a list of makes including Bentley, Ferrari and numerous special edition and classic vehicles, it’s safe to say you won’t be getting bored anytime soon. As part of a new licensing deal between Microsoft and Porsche, the 2018 911 GT2 RS will feature in the game too.
When it comes to game modes, Forza Motorsport 7 will leave you spoilt for choice. As well as the aforementioned Drivers Cup, players on Xbox One and Windows 10 will be able to race with or against each other using the Xbox Play Anywhere system. This innovative feature allows you to switch between PC and your home console with a synced profile.
So, what’s all this fuss about dynamic weather? For the first time in the series, Forza 7 brings weather that constantly evolves throughout your driving experience. During your race, you’ll notice changes in the weather as clouds move across the sky and the sun breaks through the cloud cover. Your chosen vehicle will handle differently as torrential rain makes its way to the track, forming puddles as you continue to race.
Available for the Xbox One X, Forza 7 has been used prominently to show off Microsoft’s upcoming console. Running in Ultra HD at 60 frames per second, it promises to provide players with a stunningly fluid experience. However, those playing on the Xbox One S have been told that their experience will not be a compromised one with features like dynamic weather still being offered.
Other features include the ability to stream music in-game from your OneDrive account. More interestingly, you will be able to have your individual tracks play via speakers based across the race tracks to ensure that the game’s immersive qualities aren’t broken. If you are part of Microsoft’s Mixer service, you can also benefit from in-game spectating for a fully realistic experience.
